My first intentions of Montana 1948 were quite negative. By looking at the front cover and reading the blurb, I was not entirely satisfied and didn't think that i'd be able to enjoy a book set back such a long time ago. However as i got further into the book, it began to really grow on me. I realized that it wasn't just a story but included many important themes which are relevant to today's society, such as family, racism, becoming of age, and power. By the end of the book I was sad that it was over because I got really into it, and felt as though I was apart of it. Not only was it a great story, but it was written very well and had my excitement the whole way through.
I learnt a lot about racism when reading this book. I had never learnt about the American Indians and was not aware that they were discriminated as bad as they were. I gained a lot of knowledge on the insight of how the Indian's were treated, very poorly and indecent. The Indian woman especially had no right to stand up for themselves in a community of white people as they were considered a lot lower than them, which i did not know till after reading this book. This book included both exciting and sad scenes which were at all times very detailed. The book evidently shows the evil in life which is common in today's society, and it shows how much it can affect people in their every day lives.
